The mechanic that is straining Salesforce's headline deflection claims sit at 70 to 80 percent. Those numbers are real, but they describe top-quartile use cases at maturity. Production data across 40+ implementations tells a different story for everyone else: 35 to 48 percent deflection in the first 12 months, and a 35 to 72 percent spread across use-case maturity. The ROI picture is not the issue. Enterprises deploying agentic AI report average returns of 171 percent, and well-instrumented customer-facing deployments commonly return 2 to 4x. Wiley posted a 40 percent case-resolution improvement in its first weeks on Agentforce and a documented 213 percent ROI. The technology performs. The gap is an evidence problem, not a performance problem.
